Calligraphy Supplies

Students are always asking me where to get calligraphy supplies.  Many art stores do not carry a good selection of quality Asian art supplies.  And then there are those sets with a worthless ink stone and stick that look pretty, but are impossible to use.  In an effort to help students with their practice of calligraphy, this new page has been added to my website.

Calligraphy Set Includes: (paper not included)

CA 4 Brush – This Orthodox Calligraphy Brush has a resilient, sharp point set in bamboo and is excellent for calligraphy or Sumi. It is made with quality horse and badger hair with some sheep hair. The brush is 3/8″ x 1 7/8″ and comes with a loop for hanging.

Ink Stick – This Sumi Ink Stick is made in the traditional method and is designed for use in calligraphy. It is 0.9 Oz and black. 

Ink Stone – This natural flat grinding Suzuri stone is 5 1/2″ x 3″ and is used with sumi ink sticks to create ink for calligraphy

Bottled Ink – Made from the same high-quality vegetable oil soot as our Sumi sticks, these economical and convenient bottles eliminate the need for grinding.

Fudemaki – Fudemaki Brush Holder is used for carrying brushes. It protects brush tips from damage and allows ventilation. It is ideal for any brushes, but not for permanent storage. This Fudemaki is Natural and 10 1/2″ x 11 3/4″.

Paper weight – Metal paper weight with center point
