After the tumultuous events of his childhood, leaving Lafcadio blind in one eye, his adopted family has not forgotten him in Ireland. The Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens in Tramore are a tribute to his life adventures. The gardens, in a town that held some of the happier times of his youth, capture the breadth of his life.
The Waterford Poet, Sean Dunne, recounts the life of Lafcadio in his poem, “A Shrine to Lafcadio Hearn 1850-1904”.
